Premature Greying of Hair-Palita

Normally hair can be of different colors like black, brown, reddish etc. The pigment in the hair follicle determines the hair color. Usually, the pigment reduces with ageing resulting in white hair. But, reasons for premature greying of hair may be varied. In Ayurveda, the condition called Palita is explained, indicating whitening of hair.
Causes of Premature Greying of Hair
Major reasons for premature greying of hair include:
- Genetic factors
- Vitamin B12 deficiency
- Autoimmune diseases like Alopecia and Vitiligo
- Stress, anxiety and other mental factors
- Thyroid dysfunctions like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism
- Smoking
