Wheat Allergy occurs when the body’s immune system produces antibodies to proteins found in wheat. In many cases, it is confused with celiac disease but these are two different disorders because in celiac disease, the body produces antibodies against gluten.
Concept of Wheat Allergy in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, wheat allergy can be correlated with the concept of formation of ama (undigested food residue that results in the formation of toxins) due to deranged Agni (digestive fire) which results in Anna vaha srotas dushti. Agni is deranged due to the factors such as over-eating, wrong food combinations, excessive fasting, irregular eating habits etc. It results into the formation of Ama. When Ama is formed, it results into cardinal symptoms such as giddiness, malaise, yawning, body aches, thirst, fever, anorexia, improper digestion of food etc.
When agni is deranged, the proper digestion of food becomes difficult and the food being undigested gets toxic. If the digestive fire doesn’t work properly, there is not proper transformation of the rasa which nourishes all the dhatus. As a result, it acts like a poison and gives rise to several disorders.
Ayurvedic Treatment of Wheat Allergy
Ayurvedic treatment of wheat allergy involves stimulation of digestive fire. To stimulate the digestive fire, the ayurvedic medicines which acts as deepan (appetizer), pachan (digestive) and rasayana (rejuvenative). After agni is restored, rasayana chikitsa is given to promote strength, immunity and vitality.
