Vaiduryam / Ketu Ratna / Lehsunia / Viduraja / Cat’s Eye Stone – The Astrological and Ayurvedic Benefits
Introduction
Cat’s eye is a hard gemstone with an orthorhombic structure. It is chemically identified as Beryllium aluminate i.e. BeAl2O4. The Hardness of the Vaidurya is 8.5 with a refractive index of 1.75 and a specific gravity of 3.72. cat’s eye and alexandrite are the two varieties of Chrysoberyl. The word Chryosoberyl is a Greek word where Chrysos means golden and beryllos means content. The best variety of Cat’s eye possesses a light golden-brown color. When cut the transverse section of the mineral appears like the eye of the cat, therefore it is named as Cat’s eye. Cat’s eye/ Vaidurya is the gem of Ketugraha. To pacify planet Ketu, wear Vaidurya Ratna on Wednesday in Ashwini, Magha, and Moola Nakshatras in Ravipushya Yoga in a Panchdhatu ring on the little finger. Before wearing, invoke the ring with Ketu’s Beej Mantra. It should not weigh less than 5 Ratti. After every 3 years, Vaidurya should be embedded in a new ring and it should be worn after using Mantra on it. Vidalaksha means eye. Just as a cat’s eye shines in the night, similarly this gem also shines in the night. This gem looks like a cat’s eye during the day. Its color is a mix of brown and green. After diamond and corundum, this is the hardest stone which is very durable. Due to the cabochon cut, light appears to be concentrated in a line or a strip and spreads over the surface of the gem. When it is rotated, the position of the light line changes, and looking at it reminds us of a cat’s eye. This happens due to the fibrous structure of this gem. Alexandride – It was named in honor of Czar II Alexander. Because it was found on the same day when the auspicious occasion of Russia’s Ural Mountain Regional Tsar Alexander II attaining adulthood was being celebrated in 1833 AD. It is a dark green colored gemstone, similar to a bluish olive. This dark-colored gem seems to have a very different personality from its light-colored brother Vidalaksh. It is hard to believe that all of them are children of the same father. It is an interesting gem in many ways. It contains many mixed gems like blue, green, orange, etc. It can be seen without the help of any instrument. It has a unique quality in that this gem appears green like an emerald in daytime sunlight and red like ruby in electric night light. It has absorption bands in yellow light, which is why colors keep changing in sunlight and electric light.

Specification of Vaidurya
A unique feature of Vaidurya is its Vidalakshi effect. Whenever this gem is shaken, a milky-white, bluish-greenish-white, or yellow glow like gold comes out from it. This characteristic becomes more pronounced when the head is cut in the shape of an elevation or a dome. When turned upside down in sunlight, a white line like a thin silver wire is visible. In ancient Indian texts, it is written for Vaidurya Mani: Ekam Venu-Palash-Peshalrucha Mayur-Kanthatvisha Majarikshan Pijlachvijusha Gya ya॑ Tridha Chhaya. That is, there are three types of best Vaidurya gems – one which has a luster like bamboo and bamboo leaves. The second one whose shadow is like the shadow of a peacock’s neck. The third one is the one which has the shade of pigtail color like the image of a cat’s eye.

The wearer can take more weight of the gemstone as much as they wish, and it will be auspicious. But wearing Vaidurya weighing 2, 4, 11, or 13 Ratti is prohibited. As Topaz is a Gem for the planet Ketu (Neptune) and its life span after assumption is approximately 3 years after it loses its Prabhava on the beholder. Although the Vaidurya/ Cat’s eye gemstone is eternal and forever, for astrological purposes and effectiveness, its revitalization is necessary.
Precious gemstones like Ruby and emeralds, all varieties of sapphires like yellow sapphire (topaz), Hessonite Garnet, Cat’s eye, and Diamond have a long lifespan as they belong to the transparent group. Over some time, when they are worn these transparent gems start to get scratches on their surface, and even start losing their high polishing due to which sun rays stop passing through the gems (Ratna) When these precious gems are worn for a long period a greasy layer starts to deposit on their surface which is probably a mixture of lubricants, oils and other materials that a wearer come in contact with it. As the deposition starts to get thicker with time, it even blocks the rays (different wavelengths) that these precious stones receive from the planets to give effect. Although precious gemstones are forever yes, their effectiveness for astrological purposes falls and therefore proper and regular maintenance is important.

Devi Shakti Chikitsa (Feminine Dynamic Energy Treatment)
People born under the influence of Ketu should wear this gemstone. That is, those people who are born during the time of the Sun in Pisces i.e. from March 15 to April 14 wear it. To reduce the adverse effects of Ketu, they should wear Vidalaksh of 3, 5, or 7 carats in silver. At this time the following mantra should be chanted.
Om Ketu Krivann Ketve Peshomarya App Share Samushadibh Rajayatha.
To wear, the weight of Vidalaksh should never be 2, 4, 11, or 13 ratti. The person wearing the gemstone remains safe from government punishment, sudden accidents, and secret enemies. The ancients believed that Vaidurya Mani gives advance information about the upcoming disease, the scientific reason for this seems to be that whatever the disease may be, it releases the poison of the body through the skin.
The skin becomes dry during fever and becomes wet during cold. Vaidurya’s gem is porous. Therefore, the Vaidurya gem tied as a talisman on the hand, etc. gets affected by body temperature or humidity and it changes its color and hue. It’s alternative
gemstone is Godanti.
